General Roleplay
Rules and Etiquette

Roleplay characters in Lannock County may be human or realistic pets.  We are family oriented and welcome child avatars and pet avatars.  Lannock County operates on turn based paragraph or semi-paragraph roleplay.  This means you should always start posts with "/me".  Posts should be in sentence form, always at least one full sentence, and referring to your character in third person. Always put the spoken word in quotes.

What does "turn based" mean?

This means when you are roleplaying with other people, each of you have a turn in order. The same turn order should continue for the entirety that all people remain present in the roleplay.  The exception to this is when you are within 'hearing' range of other players but not involved in the same roleplay.  For example, you are sitting with a friend at a restaurant and another couple is sitting at a different table at the same restaurant.  You can hear each other's roleplay.  As long as you do not interact with the other players in your posts, the roleplay can remain separate.  Also in large groups of people, such as a community event, people often break up into groups and you roleplay within your group at the event.

How do I para rp or semi-para rp?

When the entire roleplay scene is read, it should read like a book.

Correct:

/me had a really rough day.  The phone call he'd received earlier in the day had placed his mind in a spiral.  He entered the building and approached the lady at the counter.  "Hello, I'm here to check on my dog."

Also Correct:

/me walks up to the blonde at the counter.  "Hi".

Incorrect:

hi, I want to get my dog. I'm thinking I'm tired and had a long day.

Posting in:

When you approach a scene, allow each person already standing at the scene to post before you take your first turn.  This allows you/your character to "see" what is going on before joining in.

When others join:

If you are part of a scene and a new person walks up, do not acknowledge that they are there or have joined the scene until AFTER they post in.  They are technically not there until they say they are.

THINGS TO AVOID:

1.  Metagaming -refers to having an in-game character act on knowledge that the player has access to but the character should not.

Example 1:  Walking up to someone your character has never met and addressing them by their name because you've read their name tag.

Example 2:  Someone is missing in roleplay.  You find them by camming their location from radar.

Example 3:  Someone emotes thoughts in their roleplay not in quotation marks, you are not permitted to react to knowing their thoughts.

2.  Powergaming:  Assuming power over another player mentally or physically and/or roleplaying on their behalf. You should always make "attempts" when interacting with other players and allow them to choose  their own story. Also never emote the thoughts, emotions or actions of other players.

Example:  /me throws a baseball at her and watches it bounce off her head.  He can see her wince in pain.

In this scenario, first you assume that your throw connected and secondly you assumed that this caused pain and caused the other person to wince.  These are not your decisions.  You chose to throw the ball.  What happens to the other character is their decision.  The other player can choose to dodge the ball and not get hit at all.

A correct way to roleplay that scene could be:

/me throws the ball in the direction of her head, hoping it connects and hurts really bad!

3.  Godmodding:  As related to the case above, if a character is constantly dodging punches, hits or even constantly escaping scenarios that one could reasonably not continually escape, then this is known as Godmodding.  You should be willing to fairly take hits or be willing to roll dice in decisions.

Handling disputes and Moderators: Many minor disagreements in the outcome of a roleplay scenario can be handled with a dice roll. Who wins the fight?  If you can't come to agreement then the player that rolls the highest number on the dice wins.  In some cases, there may be moments where dice does not solve the issue.  In that case, moderators are available to handle any disputes.  Please ask for an online moderator to contact you in the Lannock County OOC group.  If none respond, request assistance from a moderator in our Lannock County Discord Channel and we will reply as soon as we are available.

Voiding a Scene:  Voiding a scene should be avoided as much as possible; however, in some cases when rp just goes wrong and an outcome cannot be determined, it may be best to void the scene.  That is, to pretend the roleplay that occurred never happened and to rewind your character to whatever they were doing before the scene being voided occurred.

Black Balling:  While we hope this never happens, it IS an option.  If there is someone on our regions that you just do not get along with and you no longer wish to roleplay with that person, inform them that they are "black balled".  If you black ball someone or they black ball you, this means that you do not join in on scenes that they are a part of or try to interact with them in any way.  Think of this similar to a restraining order.  Continuing to try to interact with someone or trying to get their attention after they've informed you that you are blackballed can be viewed as harassment and may result in a temporary or permanent ban.  In case of a large community event, please remain in a different area and a different rp group than the other person and do not engage or respond to each other's roleplay.

Lannock County Specifics List:

Roleplay signs are used in Lannock County.  Anyone who rents in Lannock county receives a roleplay sign in their welcome package.   Answer the questions on the roleplay notecard and drop a full perm copy into the roleplay sign and place it in your yard.

-All names on mailboxes are OOC, they are not visible to the characters.

-Jobs are roleplay only.  There is no linden exchange, tip jars or items for sale permitted.

Criminal Activity:

-Criminal Activity in Lannock County is minimal.  We are primarily a family roleplay community.  Because of this, our crime rules may seem more strict than some other communities.  While we allow some crime, please keep in mind that most community members enjoy family friendly roleplay and many do not enjoy criminal roleplay.  No crime may forced or "fairplay".  It must be permitted through roleplay signs in yards or by ooc IM.  This includes vehicles parked in public areas.  The owner of that vehicle must permit vehicle theft in their roleplay signs or IM.  It doesn't matter if the vehicle is unlocked or not.  Many people must leave vehicles unlocked OOCly because they share the vehicle with other people in their household or community, not necessarily because they're leaving it unlocked ICly.

-All laws follow Nashville, Tennessee Law

-There is no weapon play permitted in Lannock County unless the roleplay and outcome is agreed upon between all parties involved prior to the start of the roleplay.  The one exception to the previous rule is tasers for police officers.  The officer may show the taser in one post, and once it is their turn again they can use it.  To avoid accusations of powerplay, if you accept that you are hit with the taser, please go down and allow yourself to be arrested.  Or, you should run away if you choose not to accept being hit by the taser.

- No crimes are permitted on private property unless the home owner has placed a roleplay sign on their property that permits the specific crime.  Please read these cards carefully.

- NO FIRES are permitted in Lannock County without admin approval (contact Violet Bearsfoot or Jet Lannock).  We must make sure that firefighters will be available.

- Use of evidence markers should be left at each crime scene.  Please include detailed information, including ooc information.  Crime scenes without any evidence at all may risk being voided if it seems that power gaming has taken place; therefore it is always wise to leave some sort of evidence at the scene.
